The Story Behind Pizza-Fish-Cat
Sometimes kids can say silly things. Sometimes those things are so silly that they can't be ignored. Like the time my three-year-old responded with, "I want a Pizza. Fish. Cat.", when asked what she would like to eat. What an intriguing string of words. So interesting that I couldn't help but wonder, what would a Pizza-Fish-Cat look like?
In an attempt to tap into my own childhood imagination, I began to sketch. My first iteration of the Pizza-Fish-Cat character established the general idea, but clearly there was room for improvement. After playing with the lines, and toying with the simplicity of the cartoon, I eventually arrived at what I felt was a more curiously appealing character.
Inspired by watching my own kids grow and explore the world around them, I wrote several children's books to accompany Pizza-Fish-Cat. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed creating them!

Hello! I'm J.M. Thomasson, author and illustrator of the
Pizza-Fish-Cat children's book series. The Pizza-Fish-Cat project has been an exciting adventure, fueled by late-night doodling and short stories inspired by watching my children explore the world. We're fortunate to experience our family adventures in the coastal city of Wilmington, NC. Just like the coastal tides, the artistic exercise of creating children's books has served as a creative ebb from my full time career as a mechanical engineer. Thanks to my kids and my wonderful wife, these children's books can now be enjoyed by anyone interested in a quick adventure with Pizza-Fish-Cat!
